I... I think I'm losing it

The Walking Dead #76     ****1/2
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn

Months have passed since Rick awoke from his coma and found the world overrun by zombies, however it seems as if time and past experiences have begun to take it's toll. In the last issue Rick went after a man who abuses his wife and child but was given a free pass because he was the town's doctor. After the tousle Rick and Douglas hash out the details of Rick's actions, including an exchange of pity tragic stories. Unfortunately though, Rick's actions do not only affect Rick, but Carl as well, who has had to grow up almost overnight. This series continues to be amazing stuff. It's really no wonder why it won an Eisner for best continuing series. The quality in both story and art is not only consistent but still has the ability to shock and surprise. The cliffhanger at the end, for one, can go in so many directions and that's what's great about the series, its ability to remain fresh 76 issues in.

X-Force: Sex + Violence #2     ****

The very first I thought when I picked this up was, how explicit could this really be. This issue was pretty damn awesome. The story telling remains consistently good, as you would expect from this duo. Domino is being hunted down by the Assassin's Guild for stealing around 237 million dollars from them. Logan is along for the ride to keep his old friend from being killed. The Assassin's Guild decides not to let luck play a role and send out their best assassins to kill Logan and retrieve Domino, unfortunately for Guild, the Hand is looking to exact some revenge of their own. The action scenes in this issue were fantastic, as were the sex scenes, leaving little question as to why this mini-series is called Sex and Violence. I'm a little torn with regards to the artwork. For the most part I am a huge fan of the art and I think it perfectly suits the fast paced story. However, I just can't stand the way Domino's face is drawn. Other than that small bit, great read.

X-Man #2     ***1/2
Writer: Victor Hischler
Artist: Paco Medina and Juan Velasco
Cover Artist: Adi Granov
Publisher: Marvel

The vampires are creating an army intent on wiping out the human race and claiming Earth for themselves. In order to accomplish this feat, however, Xanus, the newly appointed leader of Vampires, has decided that the mutants must either be turned or destroyed. Meanwhile, the infected Jubilee succumbs to the primal urges surging through her blood and willingly goes to Xanus. On the island, Scott informs the X-Men of his plan to resurrect Dracula in order to prevent a war between the Vamps and the Mutants. Overall I thought that this was a good issue. The artwork was decent, although certain characters tended to be depicted in a more cartoonish manner than others. This is just the second issue of the title but judging from the direction of the story, which is both fun and interesting, there is a lot of promise for this title.

My DC review can be found right here!

  1. What's going to happen to Rick? And Carl? Ya, the Walking Dead #77 needs to come out pronto.

Sex + Violence is super fun. I'm really loving it. I wish I could find even a million bucks, without the people hunting me down of course. And I just can't stand the way Wolverine's face is drawn!
