I am trying to get back on schedule with these. If work isn't too insane I should have this week's reviews up sometime today. It's never a good sign when it takes me this long to review three measly comics.
DC
Brightest Day #3 ***
I really, really liked the Deadman stuff, especially him using his ring against the AntiMonitor. I really, really didn't like the Firestar stuff, especially the angst. I get that your girlfriend died, that sucks hard-core, but there was a Black Lantern involved. Go see a shrink and get your shit together. The other stuff with Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and the Hawks was interesting, and I'm interested to see where it goes, but I can't exactly say I was very moved by the story. Well, except maybe that Gate-O-Death at the end, that looked pretty cool.
Red Robin #13 ***1/2
I know this will sound strange, but I actually liked when Tim's costume didn't fit him as well and he looked bulkier. But that's not a complaint, just an aesthetic comment. I think this issue did a good job of setting up the next arc of Red Robin. He seems determined to fix things, and while I applaud him I'm a little dubious about his abilities to do it. On the other hand, though, it should mean he calls in back-up from the Titans and Dick on a regular basis, and I really enjoy seeing him interact with them. I think one of my favorite moments from the first 12 issues of RR was when Tim hugged Connor, and I'd like to see more of that interaction going in.
Superman/Batman Annual #4 ****
I love Batman Beyond. I'm not sure why, maybe the futuristic take of the cartoon just appealed to me, but I've always enjoyed that universe very much. And this issue really delivered, I think, in terms of getting us ready for the Batman Beyond series coming up. I thought the art was pretty great and the story was a good stand-alone. I could have done without the Superman scenes, but what can I expect when it's the Superman/Batman Annual and I'm only reading it for Batman.
Marvel
Avengers Prime #1
It's sitting by my bed waiting for me to read it. The fact that it's a week and a half later and I still don't really feel like opening it should tell me something.
