Gashapon Reviews: June 22, 2010

Yeah, that's right.  Reviews that are almost a month late.  It's how I roll. 

Marvel:

X-Men Legacy #237 ***

I'm torn because on the one hand I think the Cypher/Master Mold fight ended way too soon, but on the other I'm not sure I wanted it dragged out.  And I think this sort of reflects my general feelings about the event.  I like the event as a whole, but issue to issue I just feel like it's lacking.  There are things that interest me, without a doubt, but I haven't been blown away by anything that's happened yet.  Arnab and I had a conversation comparing Second Coming to Blackest Night, and it made me realize that several times during Blackest Night I put down the issue going "Holy shit, that just happened" whereas with Second Coming it's "Well, no surprises here."  I don't want to sound jaded, because I do enjoy this series.  I think it's more an issue that I had such high expectations and they're not exactly being met.

Gashapon Reviews: May 26, 2010

I had my comics all read last Wednesday night, and I am just now getting to my review.  Having my boyfriend in-house is wonderful super fantastic coolness remarkable, but it slows down the blogging considerably.  Kudos for Arnab for posting stuff in my absence.

Marvel:

X-Force #27 ****

Finally I feel like the action is ramped up, and all it took was a good maiming.  Nothing like a character losing his hands to remind the reader what the stakes are in this battle.  I also appreciate that Scott is now going on the offensive.  I don't believe for one second that X-Force isn't coming back, but I do think one of them will die in the future.  My bet is Cable.  I'm now back on the edge of my seat like I was at the beginning of the event. 

Gashapon Reviews: May 12, 2010

Any week I spend $30 at the comic shop without buying a trade is considered big by my standards.  Granted I bought 3 issues of Chew at once.  Too bad they don't seem to have issue 7.

Yet another major event comes to a close this week, and some more Brightest Day titles are just taking off. 

Marvel:

New Mutants #13 ***

So we've said goodbye to Kurt and gotten everyone back on Utopia.  But seeing as we're halfway through, it's time to rev up the action again after last weeks breather as we head into the second half of the event.  I appreciated that we're really seeing now just how well-planned out Bastion is.  I'm not however appreciating Hope having all of these doubts.  And before anyone says anything, yes, I know I'm being terrifically unfair to her and all the shit she's gone through.  It can't be easy to have the weight of a species on your shoulders, especially when you're already a bitchy teenager.  I think I'm just getting impatient for more to happen, and I'm going to view that as a tribute to the writing, keeping me wanting more.
